Dubai, renowned for its dedication to innovation and technological progress, is once again attracting attention as it embarks on a pioneering venture in the future economy.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Future Foundation, recently launched the Global Prompt Engineering Championship, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) competition set to take place at Dubai’s Museum of the Future in May 2024. This competition comes with a grand prize of AED1 million (equivalent to approximately 75,839,909 PKR) and is expected to strengthen Dubai and the UAE’s position as a global hub for Generative AI talent.
This exciting project is a joint effort of the Dubai Future Foundation and the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence. It shows that the city is committed to creating an environment where AI tools and solutions can thrive.
Sheikh Hamdan has a clear vision: Dubai wants to be a hub for talented individuals and a platform for startups in generative AI, making the most of this futuristic field. His Highness mentioned that Dubai has strengthened its position as a top global hub for the future by nurturing an environment where AI tools and solutions can flourish. By using advanced technology, Dubai has become one of the leading digitally empowered cities in the world.
The Global Prompt Engineering Championship spans two days, with the initial day focused on selecting the top 30 prompt engineering programmers who will advance to the final phase on the second day. These programmers will be divided into five groups, competing in categories of literature, art, and coding. The projects will be evaluated by a specialized committee, taking into account speed, quality, and accuracy.
In the context of AI, a “prompt” refers to a specific request made to a language model, such as ChatGPT, which can provide a response or solution for a user. The competition is in alignment with Dubai’s leadership directives to develop generative AI solutions and unlock the potential of this futuristic sector.
This significant event underscores the UAE’s enthusiasm for generative AI and its commitment to embracing AI technologies as transformative forces rather than job-eliminating threats.
According to a report by Goldman Sachs, worldwide investment in advanced technology is expected to reach $200 billion by 2025, underscoring the increasing significance and influence of these technologies across various sectors. Dubai’s approach to AI is not just about embracing opportunities but also addressing the challenges related to economic disruption and cybersecurity vulnerabilities in a responsible and beneficial manner.
The Global Prompt Engineering Championship is a testament to Dubai’s dedication to creating a positive impact on sustainable technological advancement and nurturing an exceptional programming community that attracts top talent and experts to drive innovation. This event will undoubtedly shape the future of generative AI and reinforce Dubai’s position as a leading global hub for emerging technologies.
